Nb RAMYSHOME |
Nb Ramyshome is a 57 ft (17.4 mtrs) traditional style
narrow boat. She was built in 2001
by Jim Sparks and his team at Alexander Boats, Stourport and fitted out by John
Lillie’s team at Riverview Narrowboats at their previous base in
Barrow-on-Soar. Ramyshome was built
to EU Recreational Craft Directive 94/25/CE and in Oct 2004 & 2008 she was
successfully inspected
under the BW Boat Safety Scheme.
Powered by an Isuzu 4 LC38 diesel engine delivering a
maximum 41 hp connected to a PRM 150 gearbox, which at the start of 2012 is
heading towards 5700 hours. The
fuel tank has a capacity of 50 gallons but also serves a Mikuni MX40 water
heater that feeds three central heating radiators.
A second alternator links to a Trace 1500 Inverter/Charger and an
Electrolux 3.5 kva alternator to generate a 240v system.
In March 2007 we replaced our
three 270ah Elecsol domestic batteries with three 220ah ones. The
starter battery is a 110ah Elecsol.
In the saloon there is an Aarrow Becton Bunny multi fuel
stove, which with an Eco fan provides sufficient heat to negate
the need for central heating except on the coldest days.
The internal layout follows the standard Riverview design with forward saloon, dining area, galley, bathroom, bedroom & exit to the stern with engine below. The forward well deck has a Wilson cratch cover which with stable doors & fold down table becomes a summer dining space or a place for a wet dog to dry off. In the saloon there are 2 freestanding armchairs one of which converts to single bed. The dinette similarly converts to a double and the fixed double in the bedroom has an extension to achieve 4ft 6ins width. Our Galley is a crossover design with Vanette eyelevel oven/grill, surface mounted hob and 240v fridge. The Bathroom houses a full size shower with bifold door, basin unit and Thetford cassette toilet. We carry three cassettes just in case!
For the first three or so years of Nb Ramyshome's life she was based at Barton Turns Marina on the Trent & Mersey Canal. From there we ventured forth as far as Macclesfield, the East Midlands ring & the Ashby Canal. We have been members of the Royal Bank of Scotland Inland Waterways Club for many years & joined the Residential Boat Owners Club & River Canal Rescue - just in case!
